Discover the Beating Heart of Africa

Nestled within the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa, Rwanda’s rolling green hills and majestic mountains are home to over half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population.

Although Rwanda has a turbulent political past, its amazing people have transformed the area into the safe and friendly destination it is today, ready for travellers looking to uncover the great, green beauty of equatorial Africa and its incredible wildlife.

Wildlife Beyond Your Wildest Dreams

Within the world renowned, diverse parks of Rwanda lives a spectacular array of rare wildlife and life-changing viewing opportunities. Each park is home to its own hero primates – from the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys of Volcanoes National Park to the chimpanzees and colobus monkeys of Nyungwe National Park and the olive baboons, vervet monkeys and bushbabies of Akagera National Park. Add to this hundreds of birds and large plains game, and you’ve got a wildlife destination like no other.

Unique National Park Experiences

In addition to the once-in-a-lifetime mountain gorilla encounters in Virunga, the opportunity to see chimpanzees up close in Nyungwe National Park is not to be missed. A particularly great way to experience this is on a canopy walk – an exhilarating guided experience on a suspended bridge 70 m above the forest.

After experiencing the magic of gorilla trekking and realising what inspired Dian Fossey to make researching the gorillas in this area her life’s work, stopping at her centre is a must. Beginning with just two small tents in the wilderness of the Volcanoes National Park, the Dian Fossey Research Center houses a 50-year legacy of study and protection of gorillas, and is the only conservation programme that has led to an increase in the gorilla population. Visitors are sure to leave with a better understanding of the real life of gorillas and the biodiversity of the area.

If walls could talk, the Musanze Cave walls – formed by centuries of geologic activity around the nearby volcanoes – would have a mighty tale to tell! With natural phenomena around every corner and a rich cultural history, a guided tour around the caves is an absolute must.

Take in the sweeping panoramas of green-terraced hills, sleepy towns and sandy shores when you visit Lake Kivu. Lying along Africa’s Great Rift Valley, this location is ideal for slowing down and learning about local communities and traditions, as well as world-class birdwatching and game viewing.

FAQ Rwanda Safari

Rwanda has a temperate tropical climate, with lower temperatures than are typical of equatorial countries due to its high elevation. The best time to visit, particularly for gorilla tracking, is during the short dry season from mid-December to early February, or over the long dry season from June to September.

We will provide you with a personal driver/guide to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you to experience the very best of Rwanda!

Brussels Airlines and RwandAir offer a daily flight from Brussels to Kigali.

The rules for tracking gorillas are very strict. If you are carrying an easily transferable disease, such as the flu, you will not be allowed to go tracking. In addition, children under the age of 15 will not be allowed to take part.
