Ulusaba, nestled within the Sabi Sand Reserve in South Africa, was born in 1993, with only one lodge and a single access road. In 1994, it was bought by Sir Richard Branson and now boasts 21 suites spread across 3 lodges, and offers a luxury resort experience like no other. The resort is perched upon a small hill, occupied in years gone by the Shangaan Tribe. “Ulusaba” translates to “place of little fear”, as the Shangaan warriors could survey the land from the hill and protect their people in times of war. Ulusaba is rich not only in history but in adventure, luxury and beauty.
A unique experience
The 3 lodges of Ulusaba each offer a unique experience. The first to be built is Rock Lodge, which sits atop the hill and looks out onto the breath-taking landscape. Rock Lodge comprises of 8 rooms, some of which have private plunge pools. This specific lodge also includes an outdoor pool, a gym, a spa, viewing decks and a stunning lounge. Just a short walk away from Rock Lodge is Cliff Lodge, which offers two luxury suites that can each accommodate a group of 5. If guests choose to book both suites, a private chef and personal game drive vehicle are included in the package. Finally, there is Safari Lodge which sits under a lush canopy of trees overlooking a riverbed.
A variety of rooms are available, some accessible by swing bridges, and all boast a fantastic view of the landscape and wildlife. Facilities include a viewing deck, tennis courts, a spa, a gym, and some rooms have private plunge pools. Dining at Ulusaba is an adventure in itself, with a wide variety of pan-African dishes being prepared daily by talented chefs. Guests can choose to enjoy their meals under the sky, a viewing or in the dining room. Private meals and catering for special occasions can also be arranged.
