Luxury Lakeside Living
Set on the white sandy beaches of Malawi’s own love island, Likoma Island, Kaya Mawa offers island relaxation in world-class comfort and style.
Kaya Mawa means “maybe tomorrow” in Chichewa/Nyanja, and this name is in keeping with the ethos of the lodge – which is to be as carefree as you please, enjoying blissful day after blissful day!
The lodge’s location on Lake Malawi, Africa’s third largest and deepest lake, is surrounded by a wonderland of tropical beauty, rugged landscapes and sparkling blue waters.
Charming Chambers
Kaya Mawa offers the perfect accommodation option for everyone from honeymooners to families and friends looking for a luxurious, carefree escape.
Its 11 houses and rooms are designed with a woven style to naturally fit in with the terrain of the bay, as well as to complement the lake and beach views that can be found whenever you open your eyes!
One of our favourites for those travelling in groups is Ndomo Private House. Not only does this exclusive option boast more than enough space for everyone, it’s also secluded from the rest of the lodge.
Nature lovers are particularly drawn to the Mainja or Makungulu Suites, as they are both situated along wooden walkways and on rocky outcrops or individual islands.
A lover’s retreat, Madimba offers unrivalled privacy on the far west end of the Kaya Mawa beach. It also boasts magical views from your very own infinity pool and the potential of starlit dinners on your private terrace…
Find Your Bliss
Situated on the idyllic shores of Likoma Island, Kaya Mawa offers guests access to a great array of water activities such as kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing, fishing, snorkelling and waterskiing.
Venture further out onto Lake Malawi by boat and explore the neighbouring islands and beaches, uncovering even more marine life below, fish eagles above and other mesmerising wildlife along the shore.
Those not stable on their sea legs can explore the surrounding forests of baobabs and mango trees, as well as the nearby fisherman’s villages, which are filled with national monuments like the celebrated St Peter’s Cathedral.
By twilight, find your way back to the lodge and experience a revitalising massage at the Kaya Spa and end a blissful day by feasting on a scrumptious dinner by starlight.
Meaningful Travel
Kaya Mawa prioritises conservation by relying solely on renewable energy and integrating every aspect of the lodge with the local community.
In fact, the lodge was built locally, and is partially furnished by the local Katunda art project. It also involves locals in daily operations, and promotes community empowerment and a better future for all on the island.
