Enjoy top class cuisine
Benguerra Island forms part of the Bazaruto Archipelago, and lies within Bazaruto Marine National Park. Azura Benguerra is an eco-friendly resort built by locals and operating in conjunction with the surrounding community. The retreat offers 20 beach front villas, boasting personal infinity pools, lounging decks and ocean views. Guests are personally attended to by a Mozambican host, who will make you feel at home. The retreat’s main area offers a spacious lounge, exclusive boutique, media centre and wine cellar, where private tasting sessions can be arranged. Guests can enjoy top class cuisine made with fresh local ingredients at the resort’s Jellyfish Restaurant, and refreshments are served all day long at the magical Star Bar.
An endless array of activities is available, offering something for everyone to enjoy. Guests can travel to various parts of the island to experience different views and quiet beach picnics. En-route a variety of reptile, bird and insect species can be spotted, as well as the island’s magnificent crocodiles. Out in the warm waters, diving, snorkelling, deep sea fishing, dhow cruises and much more can be enjoyed. The resort’s spa offers the perfect end to a full day, allowing guests to experience a variety of treatments using Mozambican oils and techniques.
The ultimate honeymoon experience
Far to the North of Benguerra lies Quilalea Private Island, which is situated within the Quirimbas Archipelago Marine Sanctuary. This is the only Mozambican island with a house reef, offering phenomenal snorkelling directly accessible from the main beach. Azura Quilalea consists of just nine private villas. Four Kaskazi Villas and four Kusi Villas are available, each offering eco-friendly energy control systems, private decks, en-suite bathrooms and luxurious furnishings. The Kusi Villas also offer private plunge pools and separate outdoor showers. For the ultimate honeymoon experience, guests can book the Villa Quilalea. This secluded villa lies atop a cliff, giving guests a paradise to call their own. The Villa Quilalea offers private dining, a personal pool, and swimming and snorkelling right off the doorstep, with a small alcove that becomes a private beach during low tide.
Quilalea island is home to a number of ancient baobabs, which guests can explore on a private or guided walk. In the rights season, visitors may also be lucky enough to see a variety of turtle species arrive on Turtle Beach to nest. Other activities offered by Azura are tours of the ruins of Ibo Island, helicopter rides, star gazing, night snorkelling, and diving.
Wherever you choose to explore, allow Azure to be your home.
